Motorized Shades

It depends on the size and the shade. Every motorized shade includes the motor and a wireless remote; app and voice control (Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit) is the smart-home option, which adds a small Wi-Fi bridge. Not with the rechargeable battery motor. It mounts like any regular shade, with no wiring, and is recharged when the battery runs low. Hardwired motors are also available and need power at the window.

With the smart-home option, our motorized shades work with Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Apple HomeKit through a small Wi-Fi bridge and its app. You can control shades by voice, set schedules and build scenes. Without the smart-home option, you control them with the included remote.

Up to about 6 months per charge, depending on how often the shade moves and its size. Shades that move several times a day will need charging more often.

Yes. You'll hear a gentle hum while the shade moves; it is quiet enough for bedrooms and nurseries.

Most retrofit motorization kits are designed for new shades, not existing ones. We sell motorization as an integrated upgrade when you order custom shades — this ensures the motor, battery, and shade are matched for size, weight, and fit. If you want to keep your existing shades, consider replacement when they reach end-of-life (7-10 years) and add motorization then.

Our motorized range covers roller shades, solar shades, blackout cellular shades and faux wood blinds. Configure your shade and the motorized options appear when they're available for that product.

The shade itself carries our standard 3-year product warranty against manufacturing defects (longer on select premium lines; see the Warranty page). The motor and battery carry a separate 5-year warranty covering defects and premature wear. The lithium battery is rated for 500 full charge cycles, which translates to roughly 7-10 years of normal use before noticeable capacity loss.

You can operate them by wall remote, the smartphone app, or voice through Alexa, Google Home, or Apple Home. In the app you can set schedules and scenes — for example open at sunrise, lower the west-facing windows during the afternoon, and close everything at bedtime — and group multiple shades so a single command moves a whole room at once.
